BEIJING -- China's national observatory on Friday continued to issue a blue alert for Typhoon Khanun, the sixth typhoon of this year, which is expected to bring gales and heavy rain to the country's northeastern provinces.
Typhoon Khanun is moving northwestward at a speed of 15 km per hour and is expected to move into northeast China's Liaoning Province or dissipate in regions near the border between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Heavy rains will lash parts of Jilin and Heilongjiang from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon due to the typhoon. Some areas are likely to experience rainstorms, the NMC said.
During this period, strong winds are expected in some areas of the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, the Liaodong Peninsula and the Shandong Peninsula, as well as parts of Jilin and Heilongjiang.
The meteorological center has urged local authorities to prepare for typhoon emergency response and to remain on high alert for possible floods and geological disasters.
