Summer sets new box office records

According to the Maoyan ticketing app, as of 7:21 pm on Thursday the total box office (including pre-sales) of the 2023 summer season surpassed 17.778 billion yuan ($2.45 billion), exceeding the box office of summer 2019 and setting a new record for China's film industry.
The total number of admissions reached 435 million, with a staggering 29.969 million screenings. Four films — "Lost in the Stars", "No More Bets", "Never Say Never" and "Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of the Storms" — each earned over 2 billion yuan during the period.
