Conference on overseas Chinese innovation, business opens in Wenzhou

A Conference on Overseas Chinese New Generation Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, hosted by the State Council, All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province opened on Friday.

The theme of this year's conference is "Overseas Chinese Connecting the World, Young People Creating the Future".

Ding Zhongli, president of the association and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said that overseas Chinese have played an important role in boosting people-to-people diplomacy, promoting economic and trade exchanges, strengthening multilateral cooperation in technology, and expanding friendly exchanges at home and abroad with the deepening of internal and external opening up.

Cheng Hong, vice-chairman of the federation, encouraged the new generation of overseas Chinese to inherit the national spirit of hard work, pioneering and enterprising from generation to generation and devote themselves to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Cheng hoped that they can strive to be an important part of the economic and technological development, making a contribution to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wenzhou government has promised to provide a better environment for overseas Chinese to innovate, start businesses and grasp opportunities, according to Liu Xiaotao, secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee.

Meanwhile, events such as expert summit dialogues, digital trade dialogues, and business and youth dialogues are also part of the conference.

The 2023 Overseas Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Gala was also recorded on Friday night, in a bid to provide an audiovisual feast that highlights traditional folk customs and generates overseas Chinese's feelings of patriotism.

Aside from being one of the most famous hometowns of overseas Chinese, Wenzhou, a port city in Zhejiang, has also gained popularity among expats in recent years as a group of foreign anchors have been actively promoting the city to the world.
