China continues yellow alert for rainstorms

Xinhua | Updated: 2023-09-01 15:52

BEIJING -- China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms on Friday.

From 2 pm Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, heavy downpours and rainstorms are forecast in Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan and Sichuan, according to the NMC.

Some parts of these regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly precipitation surpassing 60 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and gales.

The center has advised local governments to prepare for rainstorms. Traffic management departments should take appropriate traffic control measures on road sections with heavy rainfall and guide traffic in waterlogged sections.

The center has also suggested disconnecting risky outdoor power supplies and suspending outdoor operations in open areas.

China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
