Ji Guogang prosecuted for bribery, abuse of power

Ji Guogang, a former senior legislator in the Tibet autonomous region, has been prosecuted for suspected bribery and abuse of power, China's top procuratorate said on Friday.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced the news on its website, saying that prosecutors in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, had recently initiated the prosecution to the Chengdu intermediate people's court.

The prosecutors said that Ji, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress, the region's top legislature, were discovered to have taken advantage of his various positions, including some in the National Development and Reform Commission and some in the regional government, to seek benefits for others and then accepted huge amount of assets in return.

While serving as chairman and legal representative of the Tibet Development and Investment Group Co Ltd, Ji was found to have abused of his power, resulting in particularly heavy losses to the interests of the nation, the prosecutors said.

"Ji should be held liable for bribery and abuse of power," they added.

Ji was placed under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party disciplines and laws in November. In May, he was expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office.
