Beijing faces the slim possibility of an earthquake of magnitude 5 or higher in the coming days after a magnitude 2.7 quake occurred in the city's Shunyi district on Friday afternoon, according to experts at Beijing Earthquake Agency.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the temblor was centered near Gaoliying town in Shunyi district and had a focal depth of 17 kilometers, which will not cause damage to buildings.
The agency added that this quake does not pose any immediate threat to the upcoming China International Fair for Trade in Services — CIFTIS — which will be held in Beijing over the weekend, Beijing Daily reported. The agency encourages residents to maintain their regular routines and continue with their work and daily lives without worry.
