2 killed, 5 missing after mudslide hits China's Gansu

LANZHOU -- Two people were killed, and five others are missing following a devastating mudslide that struck Xiahe County, Northwest China's Gansu province, local authorities said Thursday.
The mudslide occurred at approximately 3 am Thursday, leading to the missing of seven people. By 10 pm, the emergency rescue headquarters confirmed the discovery of two victims, both of whom were confirmed dead.
Five people remain unaccounted for, and search efforts for them are ongoing. More than 800 people have participated in rescue efforts.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident had affected 464 households with 2,623 people. Guoning Village has been seriously affected, suffering disruptions to its roads, communication infrastructure, and electricity supply.
