Media outlets from different countries should work together to protect the diversity of civilizations through exchanges and mutual learning, so as to advance the progress of human civilizations for the common prosperity of all people, according to a joint initiative released at the 2023 Beijing International Media Forum in Beijing on Saturday.

"We should respect the diversity of civilizations and uphold the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations," said Xu Hejian, deputy director of the Publicity Department of Beijing when releasing the initiative, as echoed by around 100 media workers from over 60 countries at the event. "We should replace estrangement, clashes and a sense of superiority with cultural exchanges, mutual learning and inclusiveness."
