With a string of hit dramas, including the Legend of Fuyao and The Youth Memories, veteran producer Yang Xiaopei has recently been selected as one of The 35 Most Powerful Women in International Television, a list produced by The Hollywood Reporter and New York-based A+E Networks.

The list was announced during MIPCOM, one of the world's largest entertainment trade markets which was held in Cannes, France between Oct 16 and 19.

A native of Dunhuang in Gansu province, Yang shot to fame for producing the 2016 costume drama Chronicle of Life, a romance set during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). After developing greater experience and producing more hits, including the e-sport themed The King's Avatar, she set up Xixi Pictures in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic.

"Having produced a string of hit dramas that tap into either the ambitions of young, urban women or pride in traditional Chinese culture, Yang is now working to take Chinese TV global," commented The Hollywood Reporter.

Yang said that Xixi Pictures will explore a path that represents China's national identity and core culture, while also achieving acceptance on the global film and TV market, and believes this will enable Chinese stories to be presented vividly on an international scale.
