Wang Dawei, former vice governor of Northeast China's Liaoning province, pleaded guilty to bribery during his trial at Xiangyang Intermediate People's Court in Hubei province on Thursday.

From 2008 to 2022, Wang, also former police chief of Liaoning, was found to have taken advantage of his various posts in Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces to seek gains for others in business operations, case handling and personnel promotion, accepting money and gifts, such as automobiles and watches, according to the Xiangyang prosecutors.

They added that the amount of the involved bribes exceeded 555 million yuan ($75.8 million).

The court said that the ruling will be announced at a later date.

Wang, 59, a native of Heilongjiang, joined the Communist Party of China in 1984 and started his career in 1990.

He was placed under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party disciplines and laws in March 2022.
