A college security employee in Chongqing's Hechuan district who killed a stray dog while trying to drive it off of the campus on Oct 17 was suspended by the college, and many online comments call for rational management.

A notice released on Friday by Chongqing College of International Business and Economics says that around 10:30 pm on Oct 17, a student at the college campus was chased by a stray dog. Then the student was safely escorted to a dorm by a security employee who noticed the incident. The employee tried to drive away the dog for campus safety, but the interaction resulted in its death.

An investigation showed that the employee was found to have engaged in improper behavior while trying to remove the stray dog, and was suspended by the college.

In the release, the school apologized for existing shortcomings in campus management and promised to improve its management and protocols to ensure the safety of all teachers and students on campus in the future.

Recently, a 2-year-old girl in Chongzhou, Sichuan province, fell victim to a vicious Rottweiler attack, and is still undergoing treatment. The incident has aroused a heated debate across the country, with calls to strengthen the country's pet management policies — such as addressing the possession of fierce breeds and large dogs and the capture of dogs that aren't leashed — as well as on animal protection via rational management.
