A 3-year-old girl suspected of being taken away by monkeys was found safe with minor scratches after an intense search operation in Liupanshui, Guizhou province, according to the local police.

The police in Liupanshui's Shuicheng district said in a release on Thursday that the girl went missing on Oct 21 while accompanying her parents in farm work at a village.

Upon receiving the report, the local police immediately send a team to search for the missing girl. According to the girl's father surnamed Liu, they had been working on their contracted land when the girl disappeared. They searched the area extensively, but couldn't find any trace of their daughter.

Liu mentioned that there were signs of wild monkeys in the vicinity and suspected that the girl might have been taken by them.

After crossing two mountain ridges, the police eventually found the girl in a bushy area near a cliff. Although she had scratches, her injuries were not life-threatening.

This incident is not the first encounter between humans and monkeys in the region. In April last year, another 3-year-old girl in Longtian township, Chongqing, narrowly escaped being dragged away by a monkey while playing near her home.

Thanks to the intervention of a nearby resident who shouted and chased after the monkey, the girl was rescued.

The monkeys on Mount Emei in Sichuan province have a reputation for harassing visitors. The mountain's forestry administration has taken measures to protect the public from the monkeys.
