Remarkable cold wave and blizzard expected

China's weather authority warns of a drastic drop in temperature along with a blizzard, which is anticipated to have a substantial impact on many areas in the coming days.

The Central Meteorological Observatory issued an orange alert for blizzards on Sunday, with the possibility of extremely heavy snowstorms in some areas including Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces.

It said that there will be heavy blizzard snowfall in parts of Inner Mongolia, northern Hebei, northwestern Liaoning, and southeastern Heilongjiang. Some areas, such as southeastern Inner Mongolia and southeastern Heilongjiang, may experience heavy snowstorms. The affected areas will see an increase in snow depth of 5 to 10 centimeters.

Blizzards will be seen in some areas of southeastern Inner Mongolia, central and eastern Heilongjiang, central and western Jilin, and central and northern Liaoning. There will be extremely heavy snowstorms in southern and eastern Heilongjiang, as well as northern Jilin, where snow depth may reach more than 25 centimeters.

It also said that temperatures in many regions will drop by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius. Some areas will even experience a temperature drop of more than 16 degrees Celsius.

The observatory suggested that people in those regions should take proactive measures to dress warmly and protect themselves from the weather.

Jilin province government decided to launch a Level 4 emergency response to the snowstorm and freezing disaster at 1 pm on Sunday.

Changchun, the capital of Jinlin, issued an urgent notice on Sunday afternoon, requiring that students of primary and secondary schools in the city will have online classes at home starting on Monday, in order to ensure the safety of teachers and students.
