China and the United States focused on the needs of disabled people at a meeting in Beijing on Monday.
The two sides exchanged their experiences and progress on education, employment and the construction of barrier-free environments for the disabled.
At the meeting, China Disabled Persons' Federation chairman Zhou Changkui said China and the US had cooperated closely on meeting the needs of people with disabilities in recent years and had delivered a great deal of progress.
He said China had made people's benefits the top concern and had emphasized human rights protection and livelihood improvement for the disabled. He added that while China and the US differed in national conditions and social and economic development, the two countries shared the goal of promoting fair social engagement and development for the disabled.
The US government delegation was led by Sara Minkara, the special adviser for international disability rights at the US Department of State.
The two sides agreed at the meeting to continue their cooperation so that the provision of benefits to the disabled can be boosted and the friendship between the two countries deepened.
The intergovernmental China-US coordination conference on disability was first held in Washington in April 2015.
