To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, China Society for Human Rights Studies held a seminar on Monday in Beijing.

Dec 10 marks International Human Rights Day, commemorating the historic adoption of the universal declaration by the United Nations General Assembly on Dec 10, 1948. The declaration, a milestone document, served as the world's first comprehensive international statement on human rights, contributing significantly to the progress and development of global human rights endeavors.

China, as an active participant in drafting the declaration, infused the rich human rights philosophy inherent in Chinese civilization into the document. This integration allowed the declaration to transcend regional cultural constraints and become a universally accepted value consensus and widely disseminated worldwide.

Reflecting on the past 75 years, China has consistently championed, advocated, and practiced the spirit of the declaration. Respecting and safeguarding human rights remains a crucial aspect of governance, leading to historic achievements in China's human rights cause.

By revisiting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights's spirit, the seminar seeks to promote values shared by all humankind, enhance international understanding of China's human rights principles and development path, and propel global human rights governance toward a more equitable, just, and inclusive direction.

The event brought together over 70 participants, including officials from central and national agencies, representatives from central media departments, human rights experts, scholars, and representatives from various social organizations. The Center for Sci&Tech and Human Rights Studies at the Beijing Institute of Technology was in charge of organizing activities.
