The Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, an elite hospital in the Chinese mainland, started a trial operation in Macao last week, indicating that the city's medical industry will embrace a new phase.
Focusing on the medical treatment of complicated diseases, this largest medical facility in Macao so far marks the first large-scale public hospital built in the city since its return to the motherland over two decades ago and the first case of such collaboration between the Macao Special Administrative Region and the mainland under "one country, two systems".
Lei Haichao, deputy director of the National Health Commission, extends warm congratulations on the center's trial operation. He said the center will be rooted in Macao and uphold the original intention and mission of serving the city's residents.
"The center should promote the higher quality development of regional medical services," he said. "Meanwhile, the center should enhance its global perspective and international connections, establishing a Chinese brand in the international medical market."
Academician Zhao Yupei, honorary president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, extends sincere gratitude to all friends from various sectors who have supported and helped construct the new hospital.
"By utilizing the geographical and policy advantages of the Macao SAR, we will work on making the new hospital a world-class medical center with international influence, ensuring that major illnesses can be treated locally without the need to seek medical services elsewhere, while also focusing on the Greater Bay Area and radiating to Southeast Asia," Zhao said.
Zhang Shuyang, president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, warmly congratulates the trial operation of the new hospital. She affirms that the hospital will continue to dedicate its full strength to support the development and construction of the new hospital.
"We will deploy capable personnel to Macao according to needs and spare no effort in the operational management of the new hospital," she added.
