China's largest SUV and pickup maker Great Wall Motor sold 1.23 million vehicles in 2023, up 15.29 percent year-on-year.

Of them, 316,000 vehicles were sold in overseas markets, up 82.48 percent year-on-year, hitting a record high for the Hebei province-based carmaker.

GWM said its cumulative overseas sales had exceeded 1.4 million units by the end of 2023.

The carmaker saw its monthly overseas sales reach 30,000 units for the first time in August 2023.

They had since reached the same level for five months in a row by the end of last year.

GWM also saw its new energy vehicle gain popularity last year. Statistics show that 262,000 NEVs were sold in 2023, up 98.74 percent year-on-year.

The carmaker said it will rev up efforts to speed up its transition towards smart and electric mobility in 2024.

The China Passenger Car Association estimated that NEV sales in the country will reach 11 million units this year.
