BAGHDAD -- Six explosions were heard Monday night in Erbil, the capital of Iraq's semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, according to a local security source.

The explosions were heard near the under-construction US consulate in the northern part of Erbil, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The explosions are believed to be rockets coming from the east, the source said, adding that the security authorities are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that it launched missiles at a "spy headquarters" in the region, according to the official IRNA.
