Chen Jixing, a former senior legislator from Guangdong province, has been arrested on suspicion of bribery and is facing prosecution, the Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Tuesday.

The National Supervisory Commission recently concluded its investigation into Chen, who most recently served as vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, and forwarded the case to prosecutorial authorities for examination and prosecution.

A native of Guangdong, the 69-year-old began his career in 1977 and dedicating his life to public service in the province. In the ensuing years, he held key positions such as head of the Guangdong provincial finance department and Party chief of Jiangmen. In 2012, he became vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, a position he held until his retirement in 2018.

Chen was placed under investigation by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision in July last year. He was expelled from the Party earlier this month.

According to the CCDI, Chen was involved in long-term collusion with businesspeople. Taking advantage of his position and influence, he is accused of facilitating project developments and loan approvals for others and receiving a substantial amount of property in return. He allegedly continued these activities even after his retirement.
