The new exhibition at China Art Museum, Shanghai (Shanghai Art Museum) on Jan 27 marks the largest showcase in China featuring two modern masters, Lin Fengmian (1900-1991) and Wu Guanzhong (1919-2010).

Entitled Pictures of China: Artworks by Lin Fengmian and Wu Guanzhong, the exhibition presents 200 groups of paintings, sketches and other creations by the two artists, covering all the different phases of their artistic career, according to Wang Yichuan, Party secretary of China Art Museum, Shanghai.

Both Lin and Wu studied in France, and returned to make significant contributions to the modernization of Chinese art, according to Chen Xiang, director of China Art Museum, Shanghai, and chief curator of the show.

The exhibition was hosted by the China Art Museum, in collaboration with the Tsinghua University Art Museum, Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy and Shanghai Artists’ Association.

The museum will host a series of educational programs during the exhibition, from lectures, workshops and concerts, to guided tours to the former residence of the artists.
