World Digital Education Conference concludes with multiple achievements

Multiple achievements were made during the 2024 World Digital Education Conference that concluded in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The international edition of the online education platform Smart Education of China was launched during the conference, aiming to benefit global learners through digital education and provide them with personalized learning services, according to China's Ministry of Education.

With six official languages, including Chinese, English and French, the international edition contains the latest information on international cooperation in digital education.

The first batch of 780 courses covering 17 majors has been uploaded on the platform, and links to digital museum resources such as the Palace Museum are expected to give global users access to Chinese culture.

The platform also provided services focusing on studying at home and abroad, such as the guidance for visa application and Chinese language examinations.

In addition, China's National Academy of Educational Sciences on Wednesday released the Global Digital Education Development Index, an evaluation on the general level of digital education in countries around the world.

China improved from 24th to 9th in rankings of the index over the past three years, signifying an obvious progress in terms of building digital resources, cultivating digital abilities of teachers and students, as well as forming digital education systems, according to the academy.

China issued a new seasonal English Journal, "Frontiers of Digital Education", during the conference, aiming to unveil the policy trend of digital education and analyze crucial problems such as the application of Artificial Intelligence in education.

Moreover, Xie Dong, vice-mayor of Shanghai, launched the Shanghai Initiative on Digital Education Cooperation during the closing ceremony to conclude the results of the conference.

Andjela Jaksic-Stojanovic, Montenegro's Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, said the digital revolution brought a lot of challenges to educational system at all levels and countries should work together to make a progress in digitalization of education.

During the conference, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro and China's Ministry of Education signed a program on educational cooperation for 2024 to 2027 as well as the agreement on mutual recognition of higher education certificates and degrees, according to Jaksic.

"I am sure that these agreements will improve and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, science and innovation, and it will be more successful and productive," she said.
