Former VP of Beihang University accused of taking bribes

Zhang Guang, former vice-president of Beihang University, has been arrested on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said in a statement on Monday.

The National Supervisory Commission recently concluded its investigation of Zhang and has transferred his case to a procuratorial department for review and prosecution, the statement said.

The Jiangxi Provincial People's Procuratorate was assigned to handle the case.

Zhang, 50, was placed under investigation in August. Last month, he was expelled from the Communist Party China and dismissed from public office for severely violating Party discipline and laws.

A native of Heilongjiang province, Zhang began working in November 2002. He became vice-president of Beihang University in December 2018.

Anti-corruption efforts at universities have consistently been a focal point of disciplinary inspection and supervision work. In January 2022, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission issued a document in which both government bodies pledged to strengthen the overall leadership of their disciplinary inspection and supervision work at State-run universities.
