Former Guizhou Party chief expelled from CPC

Sun Zhigang, the former Party secretary of Guizhou province and deputy director of the National People's Congress Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious violations of discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft bodies announced on Monday.
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said in a statement that they have canceled his entitlements and confiscated his illegal gains. His case, along with the assets involved, will be transferred to procuratorial departments for review and prosecution.
The statement said Sun failed to effectively implement major decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, engaged in covert actions contrary to the Party's directives, and favored nepotism. Sun improperly occupied multiple residences and accepted invitations and travel arrangements that could affect the fair execution of his official duties.
He failed to truthfully report personal matters as required and did not provide accurate information when questioned. Sun also accepted gifts and money, obtained significant returns through private lending, and used his official influence to assist his son's business activities.
Additionally, Sun meddled with judicial activities, exploited his power as a tool for personal gain and collected money excessively. He also used his position to seek profits for others in project contracting and share subscriptions, and accepted substantial amounts of money and property in return.
Sun, 70, a native of Henan province, joined the workforce in 1971 and became a CPC member in 1976. He worked in Hubei province from 1985 to September 2006, holding the position of secretary-general of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee.
In 2015, Sun was appointed governor of Guizhou province. Two years later, he became the Party Secretary of Guizhou, a role he held until December 2020.
He then served as the deputy director of the National People's Congress Financial and Economic Affairs Committee.
He came under investigation by the CCDI and NCS in August last year.
