KIEV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed security cooperation with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the Ukrainian president's press service reported on Wednesday.

The parties talked about the priority needs of the Ukrainian army, Kiev's plans for the mobilization of new troops, and the supplies of artillery rounds from the European Union to Ukraine.

Zelensky thanked Borrell for the European Union's support for Kiev in the conflict with Russia, emphasizing the need to define Ukraine as a priority export destination for artillery ammunition from the European Union.

"Terminating the export of artillery ammunition to third EU countries is the only possible correct decision in the face of current security challenges," Zelensky said.

For his part, Borrell pledged that the European Union would deliver 1 million artillery rounds to Ukraine by the end of the year.

The European Union's top diplomat also stressed the importance of continued EU financial support for Kiev.

Borrell arrived in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday for a two-day visit.
