Hu Qiang, the former vice-chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is under investigation for "serious violations of Party discipline and the law", according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission on Wednesday.
Hu, born in 1962 in Hebei province, joined the Communist Party of China in 1990 and had a long career in Jiangxi province.
He served as the director of the Jiangxi Provincial Finance Department in September 2010 and was appointed vice-governor of Jiangxi in January 2018.
During his tenure in the Jiangxi provincial government, Hu worked with Yin Meigen, another official who was investigated in March 2023. In January 2022, Hu was elected as the vice-chairman of Jiangxi Provincial Committee of CPPCC but stepped down in January 2023.
Hu was also involved in a public opinion scandal.
In July 2022, Zhou Jie, an employee of Jiangxi State-owned Capital Operation Holding Group Co Ltd, sparked a public outcry by boasting his wealth on social media. In one of Zhou's posts, he claimed to have met Hu, saying that Hu offered him a cigarette.
However, investigations in the same month found that many posts by Zhou were fabricated, including the one involving Hu.
