Lei served in the People's Liberation Army in the early 1960s. He became renowned throughout China for his revolutionary spirit after his death in 1962.
The activities were jointly launched by several organizations and governmental departments, including the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
After enjoying performances related to Lei at the launching ceremony, participants expressed their respect for the soldier and resolved to pass on his spirit.
According to organizers, the activities will continue nationwide to improve people's awareness of the importance of civic duty.
