Shenyang people's procuratorate in Liaoning province has initiated a public prosecution against Xu Wenrong, a former deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, for allegedly taking bribes, according to a release from the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Tuesday.

Xu, 62, was placed under investigation in June 2023. He was expelled from the Communist Party of China and arrested in January this year.

Xu has been abusing his power in the petroleum sector to accept a large amount of bribes, said the procuratorate. He also helped to list his relatives as employees of companies invested by State-owned enterprises so they can receive salaries without having to work, according to a statement issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision in January this year.

Xu started working in the petroleum sector in 1997 and was appointed as the deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation in January 2016.
