The inaugural Hainan 2024 New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Public Testing Island Rally kicked off on Friday morning. With over 20 of the most popular NEV models participating, the two-day event promises to showcase the latest innovations in green technology and push the boundaries of endurance and intelligent driving capabilities. The rally commenced at the southernmost tourist stop of the Hainan coastal scenic highway - Yingge Surfing Station - in Ledong Li autonomous county.

The rally's S-shaped route spans about 600 kilometers. Starting from Ledong, the cars traverse scenic highways, passing through Sanya and Wanning before making their way to Danzhou and ultimately reaching Haikou on Saturday.

Yang Shanhua, deputy director of the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, said that by positioning this event as one of the main attractions of the fourth China International Consumer Products Expo, which will kick off on Saturday, Hainan is not only showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainability but also leveraging itself as a platform to promote tourism resources and the adoption of new energy vehicles, as well as contribute to the goals of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

According to Yang, the rally also aims to enhance consumer awareness and confidence in new energy vehicles, attract more talent from intelligent and connected automobile companies to Hainan, promote the gathering and development of the province's new energy automobile industry, and inject new vitality into the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
