Shizuishan farmers use intelligent technology to revitalize livelihood

Over the past few years, the farmers in Shizuishan city, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, have stepped up efforts to utilize more intelligent technologies in greenhouse farming, which has significantly improved their productivity and contributed to the local rural revitalization.

Zhang Xiang, owner of a smart greenhouse, said local farmers can remotely switch valves and adjust water volume of the greenhouses via a computer or mobile phone.

The advanced technologies allow water flow to accurately reach the roots of a crop plant, which not only saves labor costs, but also greatly improves both the quality and yield of their products, said Zhang.

Zhang also said the smart greenhouses rely heavily on a stable power supply, due to the fact that the fertilization, sterilization and temperature are all automatically controlled.

"Every time we have new needs, we just give the local power supplier a call. The company will send someone to help us very quickly," said Zhang. "Thanks to them, now we have no worries about electricity use."

The State Grid's Shizuishan Power Supply Co said it sends staff to regularly visit local smart greenhouses, collecting the farmers' requirements and conducting all-round inspections over power lines and relevant equipment.
