State Grid Weihai Power Supply offers voluntary service to fishermen

The four-month off-season fishing in Weihai, Shandong province, provides a golden period for the reproduction of marine fish. It is also a cherished time for fishermen to rest and repair boats. To secure the power supply in the season, on Wednesday, the Party member service team of State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company visited a shipyard in Paotaidong village to provide voluntary service.

The service team members conducted safety hazard inspections on the shipyard's electrical equipment to ensure worry-free electricity for onshore production and living.

"My two boats have been used in various fishing grounds for more than nine months. I'm overhauling them during the off-season. Rust removal, painting and repairs all require sufficient electrical support. Today, the electric company's technicians came to inspect the electrical equipment and guide safe electricity usage. They are reliable for our fishermen," said the shipyard owner surnamed Zhang. On Wednesday, the East China Sea area kicked off the off-season fishing period. More than 1,200 fishing boats in the area will enter the port to get repaired, making preparations for the reopening season in four months.

The shipyard's dock is full of ships undergoing repairs, which resulted in high electricity consumption and heavy loads in the season. "All these fishing boats need a complete overhaul during the four-month off-season. Welding and renovating iron decks, repainting and repairing fishing boats, overhauling and updating machinery and equipment — all these require electricity. During peak load times every day, I'm afraid that circuit failures might delay the repair schedule. The inspection from the power supply company this time has eliminated my worries," a staff member from the shipyard said. Due to factors such as the humid climate in coastal area, high frequency of use and improper usage, the shipyard's electrical equipment is often damaged.

To ensure the safe and reliable use of electrical equipment for repairing fishing boats, State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company organized Party member service team. They conducted safety inspections and tests on low-voltage control boxes, dock lighting facilities, power lines and other electrical equipment. They eliminated hazards after identifying them and introduced electrical safety knowledge to fishermen and repair workers on-site. More than 1,500 copies of electrical safety brochures were sent to them.

During the four-month off-season period, the State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company will regularly conduct inspections on the electrical equipment in fishermen's living places such as shipyards and docks in the area, resolve electrical faults, and promote electrical safety knowledge. Additionally, the service team will visit fishermen's houses to inspect the long-time unused power lines, explain electricity regulations and policies, and provide a safe onshore electrical supply for fishermen.
