On Wednesday, a series of events were held in Beijing for the second Laoshan International Tea Festival.
The events were co-organized by the China Public Diplomacy Association and the government of Malipo county of Yunnan province's Wenshan prefecture.
The events were attended by foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations based in Beijing, and experts and journalists from home and abroad.
Vice-Foreign Minister Deng Li said in a speech that he hopes that through this festival, people can know more about Malipo, so that the tea there could not only reach out to markets beyond the local mountains, but also go across the oceans to foreign markets.
He said that in the past 32 years, the Foreign Ministry has achieved solid results in its aid to the localities, contributing to the local goal of poverty alleviation.
Deng thanked people from all walks of life for their long-term care and support for the ministry's assistance and poverty relief work, and it hopes to continue strengthening communication and cooperation so as to jointly promote the development of Malipo and better benefit the people there.
Qiu Xiaoqi, vice-president of the China Public Diplomacy Association, said he hopes that Wednesday's event will further help the border area achieve high-quality economic and social development, and advance cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and mutual understanding of cultures and civilizations.
