China congratulates new president of the Dominican Republic

On Tuesday, China congratulated incumbent President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader on winning his country's presidential election.

"We believe that under the leadership of President Abinader, the Dominican Republic will keep making new accomplishments in its economic and social development," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.

China greatly values its friendly ties with the Dominican Republic and hopes to work with the new government of the Dominican Republic to enhance political mutual trust and expand pragmatic cooperation, Wang said.

In May 2018, the Dominican Republic established diplomatic relations with China, severing "diplomatic ties" with the Taiwan region.
