China's youth unemployment rate slips in April

China's youth unemployment rate saw a slight fall in April, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.

According to the NBS, the surveyed unemployment rate of youths aged from 16 to 24 years old was 14.7 percent in April, down 0.6 percentage point from the previous month. And young people aged 25 to 29 saw their unemployment rate staying around 7.1 percent, falling by 0.1 percentage point month-on-month.

These calculations don't include students in schools or colleges, aiming a clearer and more precise result of the youth's employment, the NBS said.

The overall unemployment situation has also eased in recent months. The NBS said that the surveyed unemployment rate in urban areas saw a continuous decrease, which kept around 5 percent in April, falling by 0.2 percentage point from the previous month.

The migrant workers who came to urban areas for jobs saw their unemployment rate staying around 4.5 percent in April, dropping by 0.5 percentage point month-on-month. The number fell by 0.6 percentage point compared with the same period in 2023, according to the NBS.
