Wang Yun, a counselor at China's embassy in the United Kingdom, said tea is an important part of both Chinese and British cultures.

"The tea salon in Bath aims to share good teas and make friends and to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and British people," Wang said in her speech at the opening of the event.

Kathryn Davis, managing director of Visit West, said: "Tea is such an important part of British culture that we have an entire meal created that we have entirely dedicated to our afternoon tea. It's very important for us to be in Bath in this afternoon, as Bath is the best and most elegant afternoon tea destination."

"Fine tea is more expressive than fine wine, and that experience, the flavors and delicacy of tea is something totally exquisite. I'm sure all guests will have a fantastic experience this afternoon," said Dianne Francombe, chief executive of the Bristol and West of England China Bureau. "I look forward to continued friendship with friends from China whenever you visit this region."
