Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that China would continue to cooperate with Arab countries in unity on the Palestinian issue and stand on the side of history, fairness and justice, and international humanitarianism.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, who was in Beijing to attend the 10th ministerial conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Wang emphasized that on the Palestinian issue, the just position of Arab countries is also China's position.

Calling Saudi Arabia an Islamic country with global influence and an important representative of emerging markets, Wang said China has always taken Saudi Arabia as a priority in its foreign relations.

He said China highly appreciated Saudi Arabia's firm support on issues concerning its core interests, and would continue to support Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, and opposing external interference in Saudi Arabia's internal affairs.

China is willing to expand cooperation with Saudi Arabia in various fields such as energy and investment, promote green and sustainable development, and achieve mutual benefits, Wang added.

For his part, Faisal expressed gratitude for China's just position on the Palestinian issue.

He believed that deepening cooperation between the two countries is fully in the interests of the country and the people of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia will continue to steadfastly expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and promote the sustained development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he added.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, agreeing that holding a peace conference on the Ukraine issue should follow basic principles such as recognition by the parties involved, equal participation of all parties, as well as fair discussion of all plans.

China and Brazil have jointly issued a six-point consensus on their common understandings of the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

Wang said China welcomes active participation from all parties and the country will continue to advocate peace talks and play a constructive role in promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
