A database for searching and learning about juvenile cases was launched over the past weekend to help standardize verdicts nationwide and provide a platform for the public to understand more about judicial efforts in the protection of children.
The database has been jointly established by nine authorities, including the country's top judicial bodies — the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate — as well as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Security.
People can first log on to the website — http://rmfyalk.court.gov.cn, and then select the section on the protection of minor rights to find juvenile cases.
The website has been put into service since the end of February, aiming to respond to public concerns on hot legal issues as well as to optimize legal services and advance judicial transparency.
Cases uploaded on the website are not only provided by courts at all levels, but also by lawyer associations, law academies and even non-legal institutes. All of them should be reviewed and deemed to have reference value by the top court before being put online.
According to the procuratorate, the establishment of the juvenile database is to unify verdict-rendering standards, with reference for families, schools, social organizations, cyberspace departments and justice bureaus to deal with difficulties involving children.
"We hope the database can be conducive to improving the quality of child-related case handling and preventing juvenile crimes from the root," the procuratorate said. "We'll also learn from other authorities to seek better ways to solve juvenile disputes, trying the best to offer a sound rule of law environment for children to grow up."
