Polar scientists were invited to share their knowledge of the polar regions with young attendees at Lanzhou University in Northwest China's Gansu province on Thursday as part of a series of activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of China's polar exploration.
Themed "Understanding, protecting and utilizing the poles", the event was organized by the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration in collaboration with entities such as the Ministry of Natural Resources' outreach center, the Polar Research Institute of China and the China Oceanic Development Foundation.
Hu Zejun from the Polar Research Institute of China, who is currently stationed at the Zhongshan Station in Antarctica, interacted with students via video, imparting knowledge about the aurora phenomena and delving into the origins of geomagnetic storms.
Han Bulong, deputy head of the meteorological department in Zhuoni county in Gansu's Gannan prefecture, shared his experiences as a participant in China's 39th Antarctic expedition. He spent more than 400 days in the polar region and highlighted the contrasting meteorological conditions between Gansu and Antarctica.
