Fresh flowers take to the skies from Yunnan to Miami

By WANG YING in Shanghai | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2024-06-20 22:16

Some 1,100 tons of fresh flowers from Yunnan province arrived in Miami, on Tuesday (local time), with the cold chain logistics firm of China Eastern Airlines, with weekly deliveries of fresh flowers regularly carrying on from Yunnan to Miami afterwards, according to the Shanghai-based carrier.

The flowers, in the 13,500-kilometer-long cold chain transportation, were freshly plucked from the branches, allowing them to be transported fresh for their intercontinental journey.

Being an important flower production base of China, Yunnan is well-known for its high-quality and diversified flower products, but insufficient cold chain logistics has restricted the Chinese flowers to enter the international market.

The launch of the flight between Hubei province's Ezhou and Miami in early June made delivering the flowers possible.

Eastern Air Logistics Co, the freight unit under parent company China Eastern Air Holding, has been constantly exploring cross-border transportation.

During the month-long 618 shopping gala ending Thursday, more than 170,000 orders of cross-border ecommerce packages were handled by Eastern Air Logistics.

The majority of the products are clothes, accessories, cosmetics and health care products from Japan, South Korea, the US and Canada.
