Missing people confirmed dead after intensive search in Fujian landslide

As of noon on Saturday, local authorities have confirmed that all six missing individuals from the landslide that struck Shanghang county of Fujian province last Sunday have been found dead after days of intensive search efforts.

According to previous media reports, on the evening of last Sunday, due to continuous heavy rainfall, a landslide occurred on the Qingyuanshan Mountain to the north of Taiba village. A centuries-old temple collapsed, and a family of six members was buried and went missing. At the time of the incident, the six individuals had taken shelter in the temple to avoid the rain.

From June 9 to 18, continuous heavy rainfall occurred in many parts of Fujian. According to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters, as of 8 pm on June 19, seven prefecture-level cities, more than 700,000 people in 538 townships and 43 counties under the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone of Fujian province were affected, chinanews.com reported.

Due to this incident, a total of 4,490 houses collapsed or were severely damaged and 5,180 houses were moderately damaged, with direct economic losses amounting to 9.84 billion yuan ($1.35 billion).

According to the Shanghang Taiba Frontline Rescue Command Center, authorities are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these individuals, and the follow-up work is being carried out in an orderly manner.
