Use of land in construction becomes more efficient

China's use of its land for construction has become more efficient over the years, according to a blue paper released by the China Land Surveying and Planning Institute on Tuesday.

The country had 41.33 million hectares of land for construction in 2022, up from 34.24 million hectares from 2009. The growth has facilitated rapid urbanization and industrialization in recent years.

However, it remains important to make more efficient use of limited land to bolster high quality development in China, according to the blue paper released by the institute on this year's National Land Day, that falls on June 25 each year.

The institute compiled a series of indicators to evaluate the intensive and efficient use of land for construction.

Results show that the level of intensive and efficient use had grown by 3.4 percent from 2021 to 2022, and the overall management of such land has also improved.

Meanwhile, the economic carrying capacity of construction land has further increased.

The institute suggested implementing coordinated regional development, the optimizing layout of construction land and the strengthening planning in the future.
