A male passenger onboard Adora Magic City climbed over the railing of the cruise ship on the way from Shanghai to Jeju, South Korea, and fell into the sea on the morning of June 29, according to a notification released by the Chinese cruise's operator Adora Cruises.

The location of the incident was about 90 nautical miles from Jeju Island. The cruise staff found the incident when they reviewed the ship's surveillance footage. The cruise ship immediately returned to the waters where the passenger fell and launched search and rescue work immediately.

After conducting nearly 13 hours of search and rescue work with assistance from Chinese maritime authorities, the Shanghai maritime search and rescue center, South Korean coast guard as well as a nearby vessel in the area, the cruise resumed its established route acknowledged by the relevant maritime management department. The search and rescue efforts are still going on by other parties.

According to the notice sent to onboard passengers, the travel plan of the cruise will be delayed due to the search and rescue work and the scheduled stop at Jeju port has been cancelled, local news portal The Paper reported.

Adora Magic City is China's first domestically-made large cruise ship. It commenced its commercial maiden voyage from Shanghai carrying more than 3,000 passengers onboard on Jan 1.
