Mountainous county school in Guizhou stuns with gaokao results

A high school in Liupanshui, a mountainous region of Guizhou province, has defied expectations with its outstanding performance in the highly competitive national college entrance exam, the gaokao. Nearly all students in a single class at Liupanshui No 2 High School scored above 600 points, with the highest score reaching an impressive 694 points - the top score for science students in the entire city.
The total score for the gaokao in Guizhou is 750.
This remarkable achievement is even more significant considering the students' backgrounds. Most hail from mountainous regions and often have parents working in cities. Despite these challenges, their dedication and hard work have paid off.
Duan Malin, the class teacher, expressed immense pride in his students' accomplishments. Duan, himself from a rural background, emphasizes the importance of education for students from such areas. Duan highlights the collaborative effort between teachers and students. "We hope education will provide them with more opportunities for the future," Duan said.
Chen Xue, the Chinese language teacher, attributes the success to a combination of the teachers' teamwork and the students' relentless drive. Chen describes students who "truly love learning" and are eager to maximize their study time, even during holidays.
The student with the highest score played a significant role in motivating her classmates. Hua Can, the class monitor, describes the student's dedication as a spark that ignited a fire within the entire class. "She studied hard herself, and under her influence, every one of us is working tirelessly," Hua Can said.
This drive led to a shift in the classroom culture, with students arriving early for self-study and collectively raising the bar for academic performance.
The exceptional results extend beyond this single class. Liupanshui No 2 High School boasts a remarkable 75 percent of its graduates qualifying for top-tier universities, with an overall undergraduate admission rate of 99.5 percent. Hua Can and her classmates are already looking forward to their university life, planning to apply to institutions in major cities like Xi'an and Chengdu.
