New energy technology pushes towards green targets

Over the past few years, Zaozhuang city in East China's Shandong province has stepped up efforts to foster new energy projects, aimed at contributing to the realization of China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.

With the proportion of new energy installed capacity reaching 42.27 percent, Zaozhuang has significantly reduced its dependence on thermal power, said State Grid's Zaozhuang Power Supply Company.

The company said Zaozhuang's installed capacity of wind, photovoltaic and biomass power has reached 354.7 MW, 2651.1 MW and 281 MW, respectively.

The city has also accelerated the development of energy storage technologies and is the first in Shandong province to introduce standards for the configuration of distributed photovoltaic energy storage.

The energy storage project carried out by the Huadian Tengzhou Xinyuan Thermal Power Company, for example, has so far consumed more than 100 million kilowatt-hours of new-energy electricity.

With the project in place, Zaozhuang has reduced coal consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 31,000 tons and 809,000 tons, respectively.
