The Chinese musical To Youth graced the stage with three captivating performances at the China National Opera House in Beijing from June 27 to 29.
Under the direction of Zhang Jigang and brought to life by the talented artists of the Liuzhou Art Troupe, this production follows the journey of young individuals from Shanghai who relocated to Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, to contribute to the region's development during the 1950s.
Situated in southern China, Guangxi is home to over 10 ethnic groups including Zhuang, Yao and Miao. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the region has witnessed significant strides in its economic advancement.
Based on true events, the Chinese musical narrates the tales of young individuals from Shanghai, led by the protagonist Geng Dake and his girlfriend Tong Jialing, as they actively engage in the development of Guangxi. This involvement includes the construction of canals, hydroelectric stations, and the establishment of rural industries aimed at diversifying the village economy.
The musical is embarking on a nationwide tour across China. Thus far, it has toured 10 cities in the country, showcasing the exceptional talents of singers Zhou Yichen and Chang Sisi.
