Finances increased to support highway emergency repairs amid flood season

Since mid-June, heavy, persistent and extreme rainfall has been observed in many parts of China. Some regions have experienced rare, exceptionally heavy rainstorms, resulting in severe flooding and geological disasters, causing significant damage to highway infrastructure, according to CCTV news.
On June 21, the Ministry of Finance, together with the Ministry of Transport, allocated 105 million yuan ($14 million) to support emergency repairs on highways in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, CCTV news said.
Recently, the National Commission for Disaster Reduction has expanded the scope of flood response. Anhui, Hubei, Heilongjiang provinces and Chongqing municipality would receive 45 million yuan ($619 thousand) in total from the Ministry of Finance and also the Ministry of Transport, for additional emergency repairs on highways, according to CCTV news.
The aid is to assist local authorities in addressing highway damage and blockages caused by landslides and road collapses, ensuring the smooth and safe passage of people during the flood season.
