Six people have died as of 1:50 pm Wednesday in the recent heavy rainfall in Chongqing's Dianjiang county, with four dying due to geological disasters and two from drowning, local authorities said, CCTV news reported.

According to the local meteorological department, from 10:00 pm on Wednesday to 7:00 am on Thursday, the county experienced heavy to severe rainfall. An extremely heavy downpour occurred in Hujiawan in Chengxi township — receiving 254.6 millimeters of rainfall, the highest daily precipitation on record in the county.

From 7:00 am on Wednesday to 7:00 am on Thursday, heavy to severe rainfall occurred in some areas of northeastern, central-western, and southeastern Chongqing.

Several districts and counties in the municipality on Thursday experienced emergencies such as river water backflow and house flooding, leading to the trapping of residents. Local forces were promptly mobilized to evacuate and relocate residents.

According to local media on Thursday, more than 100 residents in Changshou district, four in Zhongxian county and 46 in Fengdu county have been successfully evacuated.

On Wednesday, this year's first flood peak of the Jialing River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, had smoothly passed through the city's central urban city.
