Peng meets with UNAIDS, WHO officials

Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, said on Thursday she believed China's cooperation with the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS and the World Health Organization will achieve more fruitful results.
She made the remarks in Beijing when meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNAIDS Winnie Byanyima, as well as Jerome Salomon, assistant director-general of WHO.
Peng, the WHO goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, said ending HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis is of great significance to safeguarding human health and well-being and promoting global sustainable development.
She acknowledged the active and fruitful work carried out by UNAIDS and the WHO and shared China's practices and experience in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis
Peng also expressed her willingness to continue to fulfill her duties as a goodwill ambassador and contribute more to the global efforts to fight these diseases.
Byanyima and Salomon spoke highly of the positive achievements made by the Chinese government and people in advancing public health.
They commended Peng for her outstanding contributions to combating tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. They expressed their willingness to further strengthen cooperation with China to promote the continuous progress of global health endeavors.
