"Just by swiping an electric card, our corn seeds get the water they need. This brings us peace of mind," said Li Fuliang, a resident of Luozhuang village in Xuchang, Henan Province.
Recently, Xuchang has been experiencing prolonged high temperatures and scant rainfall, leading to widespread drought in rural areas. In response to the concentrated demand for electricity to power irrigation systems, the local power company has intensified inspections of agricultural pumping wells, power lines and other equipment. They have also reviewed the load conditions of power lines and stations to promptly address any safety hazards.
In June, Xuchang organized personnel to visit the Qinzhuang Village Agricultural Planting Cooperative in Changge, which extended their drought relief services by helping the cooperative with the electrical connections needed for drought irrigation, thus ensuring safe and reliable power supply for irrigation during this critical period.
"We have inspected the power lines for the wells and the power sources for the irrigation equipment, and everything is currently functioning normally," said Zhu Liuxun, a staff member at State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Co. After more than three hours of inspection and troubleshooting, four irrigation pumps and three mobile sprinkler devices were confirmed to be in normal operation.
Additionally, the Henan city has also opened a green electricity channel, optimizing the application and approval processes, and simplifying the procedures for obtaining electricity. They provide personalized and comprehensive drought relief power services, continuously monitor high-temperature warnings, strictly enforce emergency duty protocols, and ensure sufficient repair materials are available, to guarantee that rural households have timely and convenient access to electricity for drought relief and irrigation, said the local power supplier.
