A man in Wucheng county, Shandong province, has been fined 48,586 yuan ($6,680) and disqualified from civil servant employment for refusing to perform military service, according to a notice issued by the Wucheng county government on July 10.

The notice stated that Wang, a junior college graduate, voluntarily enlisted and applied for military service. He was approved to join the military by the county government's conscription office in March this year. However, during basic training, Wang repeatedly requested to leave the military. Despite education and warnings from the military, the county conscription office, and his parents about the serious consequences of refusing military service, he remained firm about leaving. On April 30, he was discharged from the military for refusing to perform his duties.

As a result of Wang's violations of the Military Service Law and the Regulations on Conscription Work, he has been subjected to several penalties: He is now ineligible for civil service employment or employment in state-owned enterprises and institutions. He has been fined double the amount of benefits received for the first year of compulsory service (24,293 yuan per year), totaling 48,586 yuan, to be paid to the county treasury. Additionally, Wang is prohibited from going abroad for the next two years.

Furthermore, Wang has been listed as an individual with serious breaches of national defense obligations and subject to disciplinary measures. All of these punishments have been made public.
