The second phase of China's first systematic container port renovation project kicked off at Luojing Port in Shanghai on Aug 7, aiming to strengthen the port's position as a hub and support the nation's dual circulation development and high-level opening-up.
As one of the city's major transportation projects, the automated container terminal at Luojing has been refurbished from a traditional port mainly used to transport bulk cargo like coal and ore.
With a designed annual capacity of 2.6 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), construction of the first phase of the project was completed in December. Shanghai Port has maintained its position as the world's busiest container port for 14 years.
